Timothy James Walz (born April 6, 1964) is an American politician, former schoolteacher, and retired United States Army non-commissioned officer who has served as the 41st governor of Minnesota since 2019. Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska, and raised in Butte, Nebraska. He graduated from Chadron State College in 1989 and served in the United States Army from 1981 to 1994. After leaving the military, Walz taught high school social studies for 12 years. He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2006 and served there until 2014, when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives.
