Boxing Controversy: Dispute Filed After Khelif-Carini Fight Ends Abruptly

Clash in the Ring: Algerian Boxer's Eligibility Draws Dispute

Early Exit: Carini Pulls Out of Olympic Bout Amidst Gender Eligibility Controversy

The Tokyo Olympics women's welterweight boxing match between Algeria's Imane Khelif and Italy's Angela Carini has sparked controversy after the Italian fighter abruptly withdrew just 46 seconds into the bout. The withdrawal has triggered a dispute over Khelif's eligibility for the Games, raising questions about gender testing protocols in Olympic boxing.

According to reports, Carini pulled out of the fight citing concerns over Khelif's gender identity, claiming that the Algerian boxer had failed a gender test. However, Khelif strongly denies these allegations, stating that she has never been subjected to such a test and that she is a female athlete competing fairly.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that Khelif underwent the necessary gender verification procedures and was cleared to compete in the Games. The IOC has also stated that it is aware of the dispute and is investigating the matter.
