Paris Organizers Apologize For Last Supper Tableau

Olympic Ceremony Performance Sparks Controversy

Paris Organizers Apologize for 'Last Supper' Tableau

Paris Olympics organizers have apologized for a performance during the opening ceremony on Friday that has drawn criticism from the church.

The tableau, which evoked Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper," featured drag queen Piche on a stage with a group of other performers, including people dressed as priests and nuns.

The performance was criticized by the Archdiocese of Paris, which called it "a grave offense to Catholics and an insult to Christ." The Archdiocese also said that the performance was "not in keeping with the values of the Olympic Games."

Paris Olympics organizers said in a statement that they "regret that this performance offended some people." The organizers said that the performance was "not intended to be disrespectful" and that it was "simply a representation of the diversity of French society."
