A Neighborhood Once Known for Violence Finds New Life

WEB Brownsville is a residential neighborhood in eastern Brooklyn in New York City. The neighborhood is generally bordered by Crown Heights to the northwest and East New York to the east. A History of Struggle

Brownsville was founded in the mid-19th century by freed slaves and working-class immigrants. The neighborhood quickly became a hub for the city's African American community.
